CADDY: A Highly Integrated Environment to Support Conceptual Database Design
نویسنده
چکیده
This experience report describes the development of the CASE environment CADDY Computer-Aided Design of non-traditional Databases 1 which oflers an integrated set of tools for specifying, analyzing, and prototyping a database application on a conceptual level. This environment was designed and implemented during the last four years at Braunschweig Technical University (Germany). The process of developing this environment consisted of a sequence of development steps, where each step corresponded to (at least) one of five main tasks. The intention of this report is to describe these five tasks. At the end, we will critically reflect on the achieved results and solved problems, but also on still open questions of the CADDY environment. 1 Task 1: Development of a semantically well-defined theoretical back-

The representation of design problems and maintenance of their structure
Many large projects are now underway to develop integrated design databases. These systems support automatic interfaces to a number of previously independent appIicat Ion programs, such as analyses, drafting and NC tape preparation. This paper introduces some conceptual tools for organizing such systems. A structure for Integrated design databases is proposed that supports a variety of developm...
متن کاملOn augmenting database design-support environments to capture the geo-spatio-temporal data semantics
A database design-support environment supports a data analyst in eliciting, articulating, specifying and validating data-related requirements. Extant design-support environments—based on conventional conceptual models—do not adequately support applications that need to organize data based on time (e.g., accounting, portfolio management, personnel management) and/or space (e.g., facility managem...
متن کاملFrom Data Capture to Code Generation: Tools for Entity Modelling
The entity-relationship approach to conceptual modelling has long been at the heart of information systems design. Most automated tools and CASE environments created to support database design tend to start at the conceptual modelling stage. This assumes that somehow the analyst has been able to deduce, from the initial requirements specification, what entities are to form part of the system an...
متن کاملPresenting a Conceptual Model for Integrating Urban Space Network with \"Living Community\" Approach*
Undoubtedly, public spaces can be considered as an essential factor, which could contribute to urban arrangement, create and maintain a strong local center and enhance the quality of superior environment and the sense of citizenship. Moreover, integrity has always been the most basic structural qualities and one of the key principles of cities. Integrated urban spaces exhibit the integrated str...
متن کاملNCGIA National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis A Conceptual Framework for Integrated Metadata Management in Very Large Spatial Databases
A conceptual framework for integrated metadata management in large spatial databases is described. The primary function of this framework is to allow definition, location and control of metalevel information about the underlying database. The framework provides for a set of core metadata components and allows for addition of any auxiliary metadata that the user might want to define. The framewo...
